MovieExtras.ie Support Centre – Usage & Buyouts

What is a buyout fee or usage fee?

This only applies to adverts. The buyout or usage fee is the payment made for the use of your image. So, if you are featured on an advert, you will receive two payments – your studio fee (BSF) and a Buyout / Usage fee.  The studio fee is the payment for your work date.

I have been paid the studio fee, when will I receive the buyout fee / usage fee?

Generally, the buyout fee will be paid once the advert goes live. This could be anything from 4 weeks to 6 months after the shoot. The reason for this is that the buyout fee is purely the fee for using your image, so it only becomes operative when the advert is live. There is a small possibility that the advert may be shelved, or your role in it may change, if this happens, than the buyout fee may change.

What does a 1 year buyout mean?

This refers to how long the advert can be promoted for. So if it is for one year, then the advert should only be used for 1 year only.

When does the buyout term begins?

It begins when the advert is aired / promoted first. This will be different to the shoot date due to editing. For example, the shoot date is March 15th, the air date is June 1st, in this case the buyout does not begin until June 1st.

My image is still being used after the the buyout period?

If the advert is till being promoted by the company after the expiry date of the agreement, take an image of the advert and send it to us via our support centre contact form and we will contact the advertiser about it.

The buyout has expired, but I can still see my image on the Internet?

The buyout period only applies to the promotion of the advert. So there maybe instances where the image or video exists on the internet in a way that is beyond the control of the advertiser. In this instance, there may not be another fee due, but please take an image of the advert and send it to us via our support centre contact form https://www.movieextras.ie/dj/support-centre/support-centre-contact

The advert has been cancelled, am I still due a buyout fee?

No, you will not be due a buyout fee as your image will not be promoted publicly. The buyout period only applies to the promotion of the advert. You will still be due the studio fee.
