(6) Interview with MovieExtras.ie member, Zita Philpott

A stroke of luck for Richard Baneham, this. Ireland’s special effects ring-master. James Cameron originally planned to have Avatar completed for release in 1999. At the time, the special effects he wanted increased the budget to $400 million. No studio would fund the film, and it was shelved for almost 10 years.

Z_mar_ezine_10_zita.jpg          Q. How long have you been with MovieExtras.ie?

I’ve been with MovieExtras for about two years. I’ve really enjoyed it.

Q. What kind of work have you had since?

A. I’ve been an extra in BBC drama ‘George Gently’. I’ve featured in a  Guinness Ad. And, of course, I’ve been seen lurking in the background on ‘Fair City’.

Q. What was your favourite job?

A. ‘George Gently’. It was challenging. Wading into the freezing cold sea water in the middle of winter with nothing on besides a little dress was tough. But I loved every minute of the torture.

Q. Have you met any famous people?

A. Well, it depends on how you define famous. Are the ‘Fair City’ cast famous enough? What about the folk on ‘George Gently’? I’d have to say yes.

Q. Which actor, above all others, would you like to meet?

A. Anthony Hopkins. He’s incredible.

Q. Do you have a dream role?

A. Yes – I’d love to play a nasty piece of work. I'm an air hostess, so my job requires me to like everybody and be nice to people each and every day. I’d love for my evil twin to get her 15 minutes of fame. That would be great fun.

Q. What are your top three favourite movies of all time, and why?

A.  ‘Amelie’, ‘Withnail and I’, ‘Moulin Rouge’ and the French movie ‘Tell No one'. I know you said three, but I couldn't resist. Sorry.
