Eurovision to stage dance flash mob

The Eurovision Song Contest is looking for volunteers to stage a dance flash mob event in Dublin next week.

RTÉ, Dance Ireland and the Norwegian broadcaster NRK are hoping to stage the event at the Meeting House Square in Temple Bar on Thursday 6 May, with RTÉ's 'Fame: the Musical' dancers leading it.

The event will be recorded and aired on television during The Eurovision Song Contest, which has themed its interval act 'flashmob'.

The footage will feature people from across the continent doing a dance routine to the same track.

Speaking about the event, 'Fame: The Musical' judge Erica Gimpel said: "When I heard about this idea it brought me right back to when we took to the streets of New York and danced around cars, on top of cars and in front of a fountain in 'Fame'."

"It was such a wonderful time and I remember we had such fun that day. It is great to see this iconic image from the 1980s being given a modern Eurovision twist for 2010."

"I'm so delighted that the finalists from Fame the Musical will be leading the way and I know they will make everybody proud."

"Dancing is a great love of mine and is such a joyful way to express yourself so I would urge everybody to jump in and take part".

Those wishing to take part in the 'flashmob' dance are asked to turn up at the Meeting House Square in Temple Bar, Dublin at 8.30pm on Thursday 6 May to begin rehearsing the routine.

Participants are asked to wear colourful clothing (that is not branded with signs or logos) and bring a bottle of water.
