RTÉ Radio 1 is pleased to announce a new satirical comedy series presented by the popular comedian, Neil Delamere.

'The 2nd Republic' begins on Saturday 5 May at 1pm and will broadcast in this slot for an initial four-episode run.

“France has already had five republics, Ireland just the one; and that hasn’t turned out very well!” says Neil Delamere. So, in this fiercely contested comic debate, which will be recorded in front of a live audience, some of Ireland’s top comedians will join forces with some of our elder statesmen to envisage a brand new republic.

Comics PJ Gallagher and Chris Kent will team up with the wise and the good from public life to establish a group of ‘founding fathers’. They will join Neil in putting forth proposals for new laws, policies and customs and get to work on writing Ireland’s new constitution; a constitution for The 2nd Republic.

As the old song says, if we had the chance to do it all again, would we? Could we? Join Neil Delamere on The 2nd Republic and find out why those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it; and why those who can laugh at it may have a better chance.

The second recording of The 2nd Republic will take place in front of a live audience at RTÉ Radio Studios at 6.30pm on Thursday 10th May and RTÉ Radio 1 is currently looking for audience members who would like to attend. Interested parties are asked to please email 2ndrepublic@rte.ie.
